Outdoor Spaces That Fit How You Live in Kirkland

A great outdoor space changes how a home feels. A patio that gives you somewhere to host friends through summer evenings. Planting that makes the view from inside the house something you actually want to look at. Hardscape that ties together parts of the property that used to feel disconnected.

Kirkland isn’t a market we serve from a distance — it’s where Classic is from. Our crews dispatch from Willows Road every morning, and forty years on Kirkland properties has taught us the city’s particular conditions: lakefront wind exposure, the slope work on Finn Hill, the small-lot precision downtown. But conditions are the backdrop. The space itself is what you live with.

Why Choose Us

What Working With Us Looks Like

It usually starts with an on-site consultation to walk the property and talk about how you want to use the space. From there, the path depends on your scope. A standalone Landscape Design package gives you a build-ready plan you can take to construction. Most Kirkland clients move directly into Design + Build, where the same team designs and installs as one project. After the build wraps, many clients stay on for Landscape Maintenance — the same crews back for seasonal care. Smaller projects on an existing landscape — drainage, a patio replacement, new plantings — are handled by our Landscape Enhancements team.

Whatever path makes sense for your property, the first step is the same: tell us what you want to do with the space.

Landscaping for Kirkland's Unique Neighborhoods

Landscape design and maintenance for Juanita & Houghton in Kirkland WA — Classic Landscaping

Juanita & Houghton

Lakefront and near-waterfront living, where the view essentially becomes another room. Designs here tilt toward patios that frame the water, planting that holds up to wind exposure and lake-adjacent moisture, and hardscape that connects house to shore without fighting either.

Landscape design and maintenance for Downtown Kirkland & Market Street in Kirkland WA — Classic Landscaping

Downtown Kirkland & Market Street

Walkable urban living on smaller lots. The outdoor program is curated rather than expansive — a courtyard patio that doubles as the dining room, planting that softens the alley side of the house, hardscape that connects the front to whatever back-yard slice exists.

Landscape design and maintenance for Finn Hill in Kirkland WA — Classic Landscaping

Finn Hill

Hillside properties where the grade is the design problem and the view is the reward. Terracing carves usable yard out of the slope; retaining walls and drainage get engineered for the load they're actually holding. You're investing in usable space — taking a hill that does nothing for you and turning it into an outdoor room.

Landscape design and maintenance for Bridle Trails in Kirkland WA — Classic Landscaping

Bridle Trails

Larger lots with the room — and budget — for elaborate design. Outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds, layered plantings that take time to mature into themselves. The horseback trails through the neighborhood mean some properties also factor screening from public sight lines into the plan.

Landscape design and maintenance for Totem Lake & Rose Hill in Kirkland WA — Classic Landscaping

Totem Lake & Rose Hill

North and east Kirkland — a mix of established mid-century homes and newer redevelopment around the Totem Lake urban village. Common scope: refreshing tired beds that have been on autopilot for decades, lawn renovation, and updating hardscape to match how families actually use the yards now.

The Classic Difference — one team handling landscape design through maintenance in Kirkland WA
Our Promise

The Classic Difference: One Team, Start to Finish

The person who listens to what you want at the consultation is connected to the person who installs it — and to the team that comes back to care for it. Nothing falls through the cracks of handoffs between contractors. The yard you imagined at the start is the yard you live with at the end, and it stays that way because the same people are around to keep it that way.

Every plant we install comes with our 1-year warranty. If something doesn’t establish, we replace it.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Kirkland Landscaping

Q

What does a landscaping project cost in Kirkland?

+

What service you need depends on the complexity of the project — not your budget. We offer three:

  • Enhancements handles simple, well-defined scope — re-mulching plant beds, a single planting refresh, a straightforward hardscape addition, seasonal clean-ups. The scope is clear enough to execute without a design phase. Projects range from $1,500 to $50,000, with most landing between $2,500 and $15,000.
  • Design + Build handles work that’s easy to visualize but needs to be refined during the project — a new patio with surrounding plantings, a backyard transformation, drainage tied to a hardscape design. The designer works out the details as part of the project scope. Projects range from $15,000 to $100,000, with most landing between $20,000 and $50,000.
  • Landscape Design as a standalone service is for complex projects that need a plan first — feasibility studies, permitting coordination, full master plans. The scope can’t be locked in without working it out on paper. There are two numbers to know. The design fee itself runs $2,000 to $10,000. The construction project that follows usually lands between $80,000 and $150,000, with the full range from $50,000 to $250,000. If you build with us, the design fee is included — you don’t pay for it twice.

A $1,500 mulch refresh and a $150,000 design-first remodel are both real Classic projects. Tell us what you’re trying to do with the property and we’ll match it to the right path.

Q

Can you design landscapes for entertaining?

+

Yes. Outdoor kitchens, fire features, expansive patios, and integrated seating are common scopes on Kirkland projects — especially on Juanita and Houghton lots where the lake view sets the entertaining direction, and on Bridle Trails lots with the room for elaborate setups. We design these spaces around how you’ll actually use them: cooking flow, where shade falls in summer, sightlines from inside the house, sightlines to the water if you have them, and whether the gathering space needs to work for two people or twenty. The goal is a space your family wants to spend time in — not one that just looks good in photos.

Q

What's the timeline for a design & build project?

+

A typical Kirkland design-build runs 2–4 months from design approval to completion, including permitting. Smaller scopes can wrap in 4–6 weeks; larger multi-phase projects with significant grading (common on Finn Hill slopes) or waterfront work requiring shoreline coordination can run 5–6 months. We share a project schedule at the start so the timing is clear up front.

Q

How do you make sure plants thrive in Kirkland's conditions?

+

Our designers walk the property and our certified horticulturists review every plant on the list. Kirkland has some specific conditions to factor in — wind exposure and root-zone moisture on lakefront lots, drier west-facing exposures on hillside properties — and we pick varieties that hold up. The end goal is a landscape that fills in and matures the way you’d expect, year over year — not one you have to babysit. The 1-year plant warranty covers establishment: if something we specified doesn’t establish, we replace it.

Q

Do you offer maintenance after the build?

+

Yes. Many Kirkland clients move to ongoing maintenance after their build wraps. The same crews that installed the landscape come back for seasonal care — which means continuity with what was planted and why. Care plans are built around your specific landscape, not a one-size-fits-all schedule. See how our maintenance program works
