Lawn Installation & Renovation in the Greater Seattle Area

A New Lawn — or a Second Life for the One You Have

No two lawn projects start in the same place. Sometimes the existing lawn just needs reviving; sometimes it's worth starting fresh with sod; and sometimes the ground underneath is the real factor. We assess what your site actually needs before recommending a scope.

Turnkey Landscaping

From subgrade prep through the final roll of sod, we manage soil, grading, materials, and crews so the lawn lands as described.

Harmonious Design

We shape edges, grades, and transitions so the finished lawn reads as intentional — fit to the yard around it, not dropped in.

Quality & Efficiency

When a site needs it, we prep the subgrade — drainage and soil — first, because in Seattle's clay and wet winters that's what makes a lawn last.

Workmanship Warranty

We back the craftsmanship of every install: prepped, graded, and installed to standard — and we stand behind that work.

What Lawn Work Could Involve

No two lawn projects start in the same place. These are the most common ways we approach a lawn — we'll recommend the right scope after seeing your yard.

New Lawn Installation (Sod or Seed)

Starting fresh? We install both ways. Sod gives you a finished, walkable lawn fast; hand seeding costs less and suits larger areas. Either way we prep and grade the subgrade, amend the soil, and install with regional-grown sod or a site-matched seed blend.

Subgrade grading and soil amendment
Premium PNW-blend sod or hand seeding
Graded for drainage where needed
Establishment watering guidance
Workmanship-backed installation
Lawn Renovation (Revive What's There)

If the bones are good, you may not need a tear-out. We assess thatch, compaction, soil, and bare or mossy patches, then aerate, overseed, and topdress to bring a tired lawn back.

Dethatch and core aeration
Overseed with site-matched seed
Compost topdress
Moss and weed cause assessment
Honest call on revive vs. replace
Lawn Alternatives

Traditional turf struggles in deep shade and chronically wet spots. Micro-clover, no-mow fescue, and low-water eco-lawns can be a better long-term fit for the right yard.

Micro-clover and no-mow fescue options
Lower water and mowing
Better in shade and wet conditions
Honest fit assessment per site
Grading, Drainage & Subgrade Refresh

When the ground itself is the factor, we can correct grade, improve drainage, and refresh the subgrade — including small retaining walls to level a sloped area — before the lawn goes in.

Regrade for a level, usable lawn
Subgrade drainage and nutrient refresh
Small retaining walls to level slopes
Coordinated with irrigation where needed
$2.50–$5.00 per sq ft installed

Hand-seeded lawns cost less up front but take longer to establish. The biggest cost drivers are subgrade prep, site access, and grade. We provide a fixed-price estimate after an on-site assessment — no surprises.

Every Element, Designed to Work Together

Design cohesiveness is the whole point. As a full design-and-build company, we shape your lawn alongside the planting beds, hardscapes, irrigation, and grade around it — as one intentional design. The result reads as a single, cohesive landscape, not projects added on at different times by different crews.

What Neighbors Across the Eastside Say

★★★★★

"Classic did a major yard remodel for us, completely transforming our yard… They also clearly stand behind their work as they have been willing to swap out any plants that were struggling and have been willing to return to correct anything that didn't go as planned… I would highly recommend Classic for the value they provide and the quality of the work for the price! My yard went from meh to much more beautiful."

"The folks at Classic Nursery did an awesome job in my backyard. I had a basic idea that I would like a Zen rock garden, and they really brought it to life with all of the details that you might see in an actual Zen garden in Kyoto. They had a great design, and were timely, prompt and professional. I love my new backyard!"

Lawn Installation & Renovation Questions

The questions we hear most often before a lawn project.

How much does a new lawn cost in Seattle?

Lawn installation typically runs $2.50–$5.00 per sq ft, depending on subgrade prep, site access, and grade. Hand-seeded lawns cost less up front but take longer to establish. We provide a fixed-price estimate after an on-site assessment.

Should I choose sod or seed?

Sod gives you a finished, walkable lawn almost immediately and establishes reliably; hand seeding costs less but needs several weeks of careful watering and protection before use. In our experience, sod is worth it where you want fast results or have slope or erosion concerns; seed can make sense for larger, lower-traffic areas.

Do you install artificial turf?

No — we focus on living lawns (sod, hand seeding) and low-maintenance lawn alternatives. If a natural lawn isn't right for your conditions, we'll talk through alternatives that fit.

Can you help with a lawn that stays soggy or won't drain?

Often, yes. When drainage is the underlying factor, we trace where the water is coming from and address grade and drainage as part of the project, so the new lawn starts on solid ground.

What grass grows best in the Seattle area?

Cool-season blends — perennial rye, turf-type tall fescue, and fine fescues for shade — perform best here. We match the seed or sod blend to your light, soil, and how the lawn will be used.

Do you guarantee the work?

We back the workmanship of every lawn we install — proper subgrade prep, grading, and installation to standard. We're glad to walk you through exactly what's covered during your estimate.
