SCOTT J. HALL
In 1979, during his senior year at Western Kentucky University, Scott purchased a tiny lawn care company in his hometown of Poolesville, Maryland. He flew home each weekend to take care of his customers and then boarded a plane back to school to complete his final semester. The company consisted of a pickup truck, a trailer, a few mowers, and miscellaneous small tools. His clients were few, but loyal.
Scott’s vision for this young enterprise began to grow almost immediately. Within a few short years the customer list was multiplied dramatically. Trucks, equipment, and employees were added regularly. In 1981 the company officially became Classic Landscaping, Inc. The name expressed his vision for the market presence he hoped this fast-growing, service-oriented company would occupy for years to come.
In his passion for continuing educational and technological advancement, Scott earned his MBA, CLP [certified landscape professional], and completed countless short courses aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the business. The success of his long-term plan is seen today in many ways. In uncertain economic times, Classic remains healthy and strong; the management team is qualified, capable, and experienced [and just plain nice!]; the labor force has been stable for many years in most cases; cutting-edge technology is in place at all levels of management and production; and Classic continues to enjoy a strong growth rate, retaining loyal customers and welcoming new clients.
Over 30 years later, Classic remains a refreshing, competent, professional, and dependable presence among the seemingly endless number of competitors in our area.
Scott’s greatest joy is found in his family: his wife, Sandie; his young son, Caleb; his daughters, Ashleigh and Whitney; and his son-in-law, Luke. His active involvement with fellow employees, clients, and business associates fills his days with satisfaction and challenge. In his few hours of spare time, he enjoys perfecting his golf game, riding his motorcycle, being an assistant Scoutmaster in his son’s troop, and singing in his church’s choir.
